Darol Anger’s thirty-year career as a violinist has been filled with path-breaking episodes: the Turtle Island String Quartet brought its wild fusion of bluegrass, Indian classical music, funk, and jazz into classical concert halls, while Psychograss, with Mike Marshall and Tony Trischka, expanded the genre from within. Darol has been a deep presence at FreshGrass since its beginnings, turning each weekend into a whirlwind of collaborations, workshops, and impromptu jams. He’s here this year for a special duo set with Marshall, a mandolin wizard and all-around musical polymath who has been a pioneer of New Acoustic music for four decades, delving deep into folk, Brazilian, classical, and jazz traditions with equal virtuosity and openheartedness.
