Folkway Workshop: Folk Music for Classical Musicians

About Folkway Workshop

This course will give a comprehensive introduction to playing fiddle music for any string player. It will be a jumping board for anyone wanting to become a fiddler, or just learn some tunes. This workshop is made for musicians who want to further their musical toolboxes and diversify their experiences and various abilities on their instrument. We are so looking forward to seeing you there and learning with you!

The Virtual Set-Up

Each week we will learn a new melody and harmony part and then get deeper into the style of tune including specific inflections, ornamentation, and the feel of the tune. We will play together and have a Q and A at the end of each session.

Once you sign up you will receive the melody of the week, the Zoom link, and the workshop confirmation page. After the workshop you will receive the melody PLUS the new harmony part, access to the Folkway Spotify playlist, and the link to sign up for next week’s workshop!

Every Sunday 5:30 – 6:45 pm EST. Reserve your spot today!

The Faculty

Lily Honigberg & McKinley James, both graduates of the Classical department at New England Conservatory in Boston, have been performing together since 2016 when they formed “Night Tree”, a folk band that led them all over the US and to Sweden. They currently play in a duo, and have performed as Community Program and Partnership Fellows through NEC, at the Boston Celtic Music Festival, and in various house concerts in the US. They share a love of classical and folk music, and work together towards continuing to bridge the gap between classical and folk music.

The Cost

$20 for each 75 minute workshop on Sundays.
