Here you’ll find a list of folk music camps and workshops that are taking place (in some form or another). Support the camp you’ve been going to for years, or find a new one, now that everything is virtual! Get inspired by what camps are doing to manage through the pandemic.

Fiddle Hell (online)
Featuring 35 concerts, 34 jams, and 160 workshops on Nov 5-8, 2020, with sessions available for replay for 3 months afterwards.

Accordion Camp III
Whether you’re an experienced accordion player or just starting out, you are invited to join the fun, camaraderie, and inspiration of a camp setting from the comfort of your own home. This one-day accordion camp will feature an afternoon of workshops culminating in a meet-the-artist-style concert with camp staff. You will have the opportunity to learn new skills and expand existing ones in our multi-level Zoom classrooms, with topics ranging from repertoire-building to bellows control to techniques for the left hand.

Boston States Fiddle Camp
Boston States offers a unique musical immersion by taking a week-long (online) deep dive into Scottish and Cape Breton traditional music and dance from August 17-21, 2020. Our priority is to provide the world’s best instruction in Scottish music all while building our local community and fostering creativity and FUN across ability levels, age, and backgrounds. We offer classes in fiddle, piano, guitar, step dancing, and more.

MAD Week
Virtual Irish Musical Arts and Dance (MAD) Week will be from July 19-24, 2020. Full-time and Part-time classes are available for all ages, with a special program for kids under 13. By participating in MAD Week this summer, you will not only have the opportunity to take classes and engage with other people interested in everything Irish, but, you will also be supporting our amazing, world-class faculty as they deal with cancelled gigs, camps, sessions, and lessons.

Mike Block String Camp
Mike Block String Camp is an annual summer workshop for string players of all ages and backgrounds, focusing on non-Classical traditions and contemporary musical styles, with emphasis on learning by ear, creativity, collaboration, and performance. The faculty are currently brainstorming about creating an exciting/fun online experience for you that will combine level-based teaching in multiple styles with broader community-building experiences.

StringPlay
Join students at StringPlay Online, a summer camp based in Phoenix, Arizona, for a week-long (now virtual) exploration of musical creativity! Founded in 2013, StringPlay provides a fun, creative, and educational environment where students learn new musical skills and approach music in new ways. In our one-week camps, students learn a new fiddle tune by ear, fun accompaniment techniques like chopping and shuffling, improvisation skills, and more! StringPlay is open to violinists, violists, cellists, and bassists who completed grades 7-12 in the 2019-2020 school year.

Folkway Workshop: Folk Music for Classical Musicians
This course will give a comprehensive introduction to playing fiddle music for any string player. It will be a jumping board for anyone wanting to become a fiddler, or just learn some tunes. This workshop is made for musicians who want to further their musical toolboxes and diversify their experiences and various abilities on their instrument.

Heart of Sierra - The Virtual Alasdair Fraser's Sierra Fiddle Camp
Our wonderful faculty will lead classes on Scottish, Cajun, and Scandinavian music, and we’ll take some of the favorite elements from 15 years at Sierra Camp – village gatherings, forums, morning yoga, costume madness – and recreate our beloved village. Participants will enter the online village through the gateway of our expressly-designed website.

Maine Fiddle Camp
Join us for for a weekend of virtual classes, jams, performances, and all the things you love about Maine Fiddle Camp! The weekend will include Zoom Jam Sessions, Zoom Classes for all Instruments, Virtual Camper Concert, Specialty Workshops and more!

Fiddle Pal Camp 2020 From Home
Challenges inspire innovation! This year we have created learning opportunities that had not previously been possible with greater variety, more teachers, more one-on-one access, more “aha” moments. Violin, viola, cello, mandolin, and guitar players learn tunes and techniques from a variety of traditions such as Bluegrass, Scottish, Jazz, Appalachian, Irish, and Blues. Be inspired by the energy of a week of camp and continue to access the lessons for an entire year.
