About MAD Week
Sponsored by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE) O'Neill-Malcom Branch, Washington, DC, Virtual Irish Musical Arts and Dance (MAD) Week will be from July 19-24, 2020. Full-time and Part-time classes are available for all ages. By participating in MAD Week this summer, you will not only have the opportunity to take classes and engage with other people interested in everything Irish, but, you will also be supporting our amazing, world-class faculty as they deal with cancelled gigs, camps, sessions, and lessons.
Get more info about all of our programs at ccemadweek.com. We have programs for all ages and skill levels. And, if you have a child ages 6-12 who isn’t quite ready for a full program, our MAD kid’s club would be a perfect match! MAD Kids' Club is a six-week on-line program, with fresh content provided at the beginning of each week for kids aged 6 through 12.
The Virtual Set-Up
The MAD Week Regular Program: Offers students of all levels the opportunity to do focused work on skills and tradition in VIRTUAL workshops as well as explore other ways to deepen their involvement with the culture or community through VIRTUAL electives. Classes are open to ages 13+ unless otherwise noted. Skill levels are identified in the course descriptions. In some cases, students may be asked to move levels to better meet their needs.
The MAD Week Kids’ Club: The program is designed to keep kids happily and independently occupied for many hours, hopefully providing ways for families to engage in Irish culture together, and also offering enriching opportunities for working parents and guardians to offer children if their childcare has been cancelled due to the pandemic. MAD Kids Club is also perfect for supplying nannies and caregivers with meaningful activities! Most of all, MAD Kids Club is a way to create community when we cannot be together. Content is available any time during the week, to better fit your family schedule. All content is pre-recorded so parents and guardians can preview everything children are learning. A supply list for crafts and other activities will be emailed upon registration to allow families to order items online.
Kids’ club will include:
Creative Writing including pen pal letter exchanges and personal coaching from language arts educators.
Irish Traditional Music Appreciation with video from master musicians explaining their music and demonstrating their instruments.
Weekly Lessons for singing, beginner fiddlers, beginner whistle players, and beginner bodhrán players. Campers can follow all of the classes or just the ones they are most interested in. Instructors from all over the US and Ireland have collaborated to compile our favorite tunes and songs for beginners.
Irish Dance video lessons for beginners with award winning dance instructors.
Creative Culture Activities including Crafts, Irish history and printables.
